Saint Petersburg is certainly a world-class destination with its excellent museums and palaces (the world-famous Hermitage Museum is a magnificent combination of both), marvelous onion-domed cathedrals, theaters, countless canals, and bridges.

In addition, the fourth largest city in Europe features two outstanding excursions: firstly, the Peterhof Palace with its magnificent fountains and gardens can be reached in 40 minutes by hydrofoil.

Secondly, the not less impressive Catherine Palace in Tsarskoe Selo, built by the same architect as the Winter Palace, a rococo masterpiece, and home to the famous Amber Room.

An exceptionally high score for its sights and nightlife, a scenic seaside location, and solid shopping opportunities lead to a remarkable rank for Saint Petersburg.

The Not-So-Good: 

Obtaining a Russian visa is an expensive and cumbersome process. 

Furthermore, concerning service Russians are certainly not known as particularly friendly.

Finally, the city is dusty and from time to time you could get some grains of sand in your mouth.
