A City of Spectacle, Showbiz, and High Stakes

A. About Las Vegas

Nickname: Sin City

Today some forty million visitors come to Las Vegas (Spanish for "the meadows") to gamble their savings away, visit world-class entertainment shows, dine in gourmet restaurants, or just experience the glorious oddness of the city.

The Strip, Las Vegas' famous street with its colorfully illuminated hotel buildings and insane casinos sparkles with neon lights and recreated glamorous sites from cities around the world. Here you can wander in half an hour from Venice (the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino with impressive indoor canals) to Polynesia (the Mirage, with on-site erupting volcano) to Paris (including a half-scale Eiffel Tower) to Egypt (the Luxor).

Around two million people live in the city and its suburbs, most of them working directly in or around gambling, show business, and tourism.

The Good:

Las Vegas enjoys a particularly vibrant nightlife with plenty of trendy cafés, bars, and nightclubs.

Furthermore, the city delights visitors with fantastic shopping and delicious food.

Moreover, the city is safe, clean, and possesses numerous sights, most of them located around the Strip.

The Not-So-Good:

Las Vegas is a rather expensive city.

In addition, the city offers only a few pedestrian zones (mainly Fremont Street Experience). Outside of the Strip, you need to take a taxi almost everywhere.
